It's about that time!

Image result for april vacation

April break is right around the corner, but we are working hard in fifth grade! Here is a little peak at what we have been working on...

In Social Studies: Room 209 has wrapped up their unit on the Colonies by creating an informational research flier using Explain Everything.  These came out GREAT.  Students collected their own research using materials borrowed from the library, as well as credible websites.

Students also completed a unit on slavery in the colonies.  We talked about different problems, or dilemmas, that slaves faced during the 1700's.  We then created our own slave journals, where they had to write a journal entry from the point of view of a slave at this time.  We will wrap up our sharing of these today.

In Math: We will be finishing Topic 9- Adding and Subtracting Fractions this week.
Our topic test is on Thursday 4/16/15

In ELA: We have been doing fabulous in our reading groups for the last few weeks.  Our focus has been on Text Structure and Non-Fiction Summaries.  We are currently working on a Class Idiom Collage, where each student needed to choose and illustrate their own idiom.  They are looking great so far!  We will continue our study of figurative language after break.

Reminder to ELA Parents: Hobby photos need to be in by this Friday.  We will be using them in a poster project starting the Monday after break!  Thank you to those of you who have already sent them in :)

Important Notes!
