Hello all! We have had a very busy week playing catch up from all these snow days! I am very impressed with the hard work I have been seeing in all subjects.  Here is what we have been working on....

Social Studies:
Room 208 is wrapping up their study on Explorers.  We have studied 8 explorers in all and have been recording our findings in our Explorer Journal.  We will be completing a class activity using the information we found on Friday 2/13/15.  Students will have to work together to complete a life size matrix of each explorer.  Our next topic of study will be looking at a few of the first colonies in the New World; Jamestown, Roanoke, and Plymouth.

Math:
We have been working very hard on our Topic 7- Dividing with Decimals! It has been tough with all the snow days, but students are working hard and doing great.  We will be having a quiz on the first 5 lessons of the topic on Friday 2/13/15.  Students went home on Thursday with a review packet to help them prepare for the quiz.  We will continue working with Topic 7 after we return from break.

ELA:
We have been busy, busy, BUSY in ELA.  We wrapped up our first core book last week-Tuck Everlasting.  We discussed the different themes in the book and worked together in a group scavenger hunt to find evidence for the themes.  Theme is a very challenging idea for students at this age because it requires a lot of inferring and reading in-between the lines.  The students did great, I was very happy with the effort and evidence found in the activity.

Today we are beginning a genre study project with our new librarian, Miss Carney.  Students will be responsible for reading a book of a certain genre over break and looking for the "ingredients" that make up that genre.  Students will then be helping organize our class library in 209 into specific genres.  This is a great hands-on activity that will really give students the chance to show and test what they know.

Check it out!

As part of a Student Council run fundraiser, Pine Glen donated money to purchase Pillow Pets for pediatric patients at Mass General for children.  As a class, our homeroom chose a pillow pet that we would like to donate.  We agreed on donating the Dolphin Pillow Pet.  Here is a picture of it before we send it off! Great job 209!!
